I was out on deck to watch the sun rise and the island of Maui appear as we docked about 8 a.m. at Kahului where we remained overnight.
Chosen Tour: Lahana Transfer
We enjoyed the view of the West Maui Mountains and coastline with its surfing, snorkling, and swimming beaches/coves as we went by motorcoach to Lahaina (approximately a 45-minute drive). We had the choice
of getting off at Lahana or the Ka'anapali Beach resort area which is 15 minutes further down the road from Lahaina and the choice of being picked up at 2 or 4. We chose
the earlier pickup and spent the morning exploring the Lahana shops and wharf. Lahana has the distinction of having the second largest banion tree in the world, which
takes up an entire block.
Other activities we were able to fit in today were: the Kumu's talk on Maui and later in the day while Ed took a power nap I was off to Tea Time with Laney and enjoyed a wonderful cup of tea, tea sandwiches, cookies and Laney's delightful music. Then I was off to trivia challenge with D.J. Joe and have to admit to not getting many answers right. Later for us it was hula practice, the show Two on an Aisle, making shell jewelry for our girls, taking in Paniolo Variety Night, going to the Take A Break Party and at 10:30 going to the Paniolo Barbecue where they grilled up chicken and beef brochettes with all the trimmin's!
Things offered but we couldn't fit in were all types of exercise classes, Maui walk, daily quiz, Hawaiian Crafts - fabric flowers & featherworks, Hawaiian Quiz, line dancing, games, Kanikapila time - the sounds of Hawaii, country sounds and a dixie melody New Orlean's style, concert of music of Jerome Kern, Broadway on the Pacific show presenting a salute to Jerome Kern, dancing to the S.S.Independence Orchestra, Club Ohana with D.J. Joe spinning the tunes from 11:30 p.m.
